The crystals or the white crumbs you see in the middle of the globe are phosphorus.  When phosphorus is exposed to the light during the day, it will glow at night for an hour or more depending on how bright the day has been. 

The measurements are approximately 3.5 inches wide, 4 inches tall and 12 inches around. They weigh about 2-3 pounds.   Some will be a little smaller or a little larger. There are many varieties and colors available.

 

This globe can be used inside or out, put them around your deck, around your pool, use them as a gazing ball in your garden, in your bathroom or bedroom as a nightlight, on your mantle, or the center of your coffee table.  Put it in a fresh water fish tank.
